Ben Affleck Loses It All In Illegal Poker Ring

One doesn’t have to understand how poker works to understand how foolish some of your most respected celebrities have been. Last week, a revealing report claimed that for almost 10 long years, Hollywood executives, businessmen, lawyers, and even famous actors have been taking part in high-stakes illegal poker games. Actors Matt Damen (who starred in the poker movie Rounders), Leonardo DiCaprio, and even Tobey Maguire (who father masterminded the ring) are being associated.

But today its Ben Affleck’s who is making the headlines. Despite having played bad boy Chuckie Sullivan in Good Will Hunting, when it comes to real life poker, he doesn’t have much game at all. This all stems back to one night in 2004, when Affleck found himself in the particularly unenviable position of owing $400,000 to Hollywood big shot Ron Meyer. An anonymous source describes “He’d had a string of bad movies and didn’t have any big projects on the horizon, and everyone was wondering, ‘Is Ben broke?’”. Affleck did eventually come up with the cash, not least because owing that much money to Meyer would have spelled game over for his career.

Despite how serious this celebrity poker saga may sound, at least Affleck’s poker faux pas has been generating big laughs in the UK press, with The Daily Mail reporting an agent for Mr. Affleck being unavailable for comment. We do have to wonder what good girl Jennifer Gardner thinks of all this
